Don Morgan received Pasadena Magazine's 2009 "40 Under 40" Award. Winners of "40 Under 40" include business owners, philanthropists, PR directors and financial planners who all give back to the community and help keep Pasadena vibrant and energized.
Don Morgan offers over 15 years experience working with dynamic mission-driven organizations. He has excelled in a diverse collection of responsibilities while serving organizations that range greatly in size, function, and organizational development. Prior to establishing the firm, he counseled homeless and run-away youth at Larkin Street Youth Center in San Francisco. He was also part of the original staff responsible for funding and establishing organizational policies and partnership agreements for the Arizona Diamondback Community Foundation, prior to its first season as a Major League Baseball team. These early experiences led him to development work at the high school and university levels in positions including Alumni Relations, Major Gifts Officer, and Vice President of Mission Advancement. He has participated in strategic planning, master planning, and board development at each level, solicited seven-figure gifts for capital campaigns, and supervised development staff within his departments.
His ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders enables him to work with the essential participants at all levels of an organization to identify goals and design strategies for exceeding them. The skillful establishment of relationships with individuals interested in supporting sustainable change within the organizations they served has defined his success.
Dr. Morgan has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of San Diego, a Masters of Public Administration from Arizona State University, and Doctorate of Philosophy in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. His Ph.D. research through the Center on Philanthropy and Public Policy focused on an expanded role in community development for nonprofit organizations. Research interviews facilitated relationship building with nonprofit leaders throughout the country while documenting examples of organizational models that produced effective results. These published findings have demonstrated the potential for nonprofit executives to build organizations that have the capacity to lead fundamental change efforts in their communities.
As an undergraduate, Dr. Morgan was the recipient of the Bishop Leo T. Maher Catholic Leadership Scholarship, USD Class of 1991 Scholarship, worked in the United States Congress as a Lyndon Baines Johnson Scholar, and was the Campus Ministry Baccalaureate Speaker for his graduating class. He received a USC Dean's Grant from the School of Policy, Planning, and Development, was named a John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Dissertation Fellow, and was the commencement speaker for his graduate college's commencement ceremony. He has held a research fellowship at the Center for the Study of Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University where he participated in a study that interviewed people identified as one of the 1000 most influential people in Los Angeles. He continues to teach as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Policy School at USC. He serves on the Boards of Directors for Urban Compass - a nonprofit organization serving elementary school children in Watts and the Jesuit Volunteer Corps - a life-transforming service program for recent college graduates who wish to work with the underserved. He also serves as the Stewardship Committee Chair at Holy Family Parish in South Pasadena, an Annual Giving Class Agent for Mayfield Junior School in Pasadena, and assists with the Mission Advancement Cabinet for Verbum Dei Cristo Rey High School - a Jesuit college preparatory located in Watts serving young men through an innovative corporate work study program that enables students from under-served communities to excel in high school and beyond.
